| The Morning Brief Monday, 12 October 2026 |
| Dear investor, Nvidia is sitting an inch below a $6 trillion market cap, and the tower REITs have put together a 15% morning. The market appears to have woken up in a generous mood. AT&T, meanwhile, has given us something better: a fight. • | 🤖 Nvidia hits $6T: Nvidia ($NVDA) is flirting with a valuation no company has reached before. Three tests this week will decide whether the AI trade holds. We map them out. |
• | 📡 Crown Castle surges: Crown Castle ($CCI) is up 15.7% pre-market and has pulled the rest of the tower sector along with it. The obvious question is what actually moved it. We dig in. |
• | 🥊 Jordan vs. Jess on AT&T: Jordan looks at AT&T ($T) and sees durable margin economics. Jess looks at the 2.7x net debt load and is a lot less convinced. We let them argue. |
Today's issue is 1,322 words. About five minutes. Let's get into it.

| | Top of the Morning Nvidia Nears $6T Market Cap Ahead of Key AI Trade Tests | | Nvidia nears $6T, but AI expectations outweigh reality. | What happened: Nvidia ($NVDA) closed Friday at $229.28, worth $5.54 trillion, and faces three tests this week, Invezz reported Monday. • | 🧮 The last nine percent: $249 a share makes Nvidia a $6 trillion company. It already touched $5.78 trillion last week. |
• | 📅 Wednesday's double bill: September's consumer price index (CPI) lands at 8:30 a.m. ET, with economists expecting headline inflation near 3.7%. ASML ($ASML) reports before European markets open the same morning. |
Dive Deeper: This looks like an earnings week. The number actually setting the multiple is the 10-year Treasury yield, which ended Friday around 5.24%, near a 24-year high. • | 📉 Rent on the multiple: That yield is the rent Nvidia's valuation pays. Meaning: it cuts the present value of future profits, and it makes funding the data-centre build-out behind chip demand dearer. |
• | 🔧 Orders over earnings: ASML's lithography machines are required to make advanced chips, and it has guided to €11-12bn of third-quarter sales, with 2026 revenue from EUV (extreme ultraviolet) systems growing more than 45%. Think: the bookings line tells you whether foundries still believe in capacity years out. |
Why it matters: We would hold Nvidia into Thursday, when Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ($TSM) is expected to post a sixth straight quarter of record profit. • | 🏭 Demand outruns the discount rate: Analysts surveyed by LSEG expect TSMC net income to rise about 65% to T$746.3 billion, on record third-quarter revenue of T$1.49 trillion, up 50%. Stifel's Sahej Singh notes revenue landed roughly 2% above the top of guidance. |
• | 🐻 The bear's best card: Deutsche Bank strategist George Saravelos says investors now rank something going wrong inside the AI ecosystem as their biggest systemic worry, with concentration risk "under-priced by the market." |
• | 🎯 Our take: UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri's $300 target needs demand to confirm it, and this week can do that. If ASML's bookings hold and TSMC lifts its full-year outlook, a 3.7% inflation print changes little about chips that are already spoken for. |
| | Pre-Market Movers Pre-market data as of 6:01 AM ET | Jordan Bittencourt Equity Analyst · on today’s gainers |
| $CCI +15.7% Crown Castle Crown Castle ($CCI), the tower REIT that operates an 80,000-mile fiber network, is up 15.7% pre-market to $79.71. The move fits with a broad tower rally that also lifted American Tower ($AMT, +9.8%) and SBA Communications ($SBAC, +7.4%). That is 10.3x the stock's 1.5% average daily move. Next up is Q3 FY2026 earnings on October 21. |
| $MRNA +13.7% Moderna Moderna ($MRNA), a pure-play mRNA therapeutics company, is up 13.7% pre-market to $224.03, which puts it right up against its $225 52-week high. That caps a run that has the stock 626% higher year to date. Next up is Q3 FY2026 earnings on November 5. |
| $HUM +11.6% Humana Humana ($HUM), a leading retail health and wellness plan operator, is up 11.6% pre-market to $432.1 after its 2027 CMS star ratings were lifted. Star ratings feed straight into reimbursement, so this one touches the money. That is 6.5x its average daily move. Next catalyst: November 6, when $HUM reports Q3 FY2026 earnings. |
| | Jess Langley Macro Researcher · on today’s losers |
| $TMUS -12.3% T-Mobile US T-Mobile US ($TMUS), a nationwide postpaid, prepaid, and wholesale network operator, is having a rough morning. Shares are down 12.3% pre-market to $150.2, the worst single session since 2013, and sector peers are being dragged along too. That is 6.8x its average daily move. Next up: Q3 FY2026 earnings on October 28. |
| $T -9.6% AT&T AT&T ($T), a telecom offering wireless, media, and technology services, is down 9.6% pre-market to $22.23. Rising bond yields are squeezing yield-sensitive telecoms this morning, with $VZ off 8.4% in the same session. Next catalyst: October 21, when the company reports Q3 FY2026 earnings. |
| $ASTS -9.2% AST SpaceMobile AST SpaceMobile ($ASTS), the SpaceMobile service provider for unserved mobile users, is down 9.2% pre-market to $51.71 after sell-side analysts moved to a consensus Hold. The rating shift lands on a stock already sitting just 5% above its 52-week low. The next scheduled event is Q3 FY2026 earnings on November 9. |
| | ➡️ Easy-to-Follow Portfolio | | • | The record: A rules-based screen and ranking system: a set of conviction holdings drawn from 40 tracked names, reviewed every week, with hard rules for what gets sold. More importantly, you can see exactly why each name is in there. |
• | Inside it today: Micron Technology ($MU) is up +1713% and Vertiv Holdings Co ($VRT) +1619%, both still rated Hold. You'll see what has worked and what we are still backing. |
• | The one we just bought: Sandisk ($SNDK) went in rated Add. You buy it the morning we do, rather than reading about it afterwards. |
| | Today's Debate → | Is AT&T ($T) worth buying after today's 9.6% drop, or does the selloff actually hand investors a real entry point? |
| Jordan Bittencourt Bull 🐂 |
Yes. The stock got repriced alongside everything else in the sector, but a 59.6% gross margin does not know that happened, and the economics are exactly where they were last week. • | The margin story: AT&T ($T), a major US provider of wireless voice and data services, is running a 19.9% operating margin. Revenue grew 2.7% year-over-year. Those are the economics of a durable subscriber base, and one volatile session does not change either number. |
• | The risk the market is pricing wrong: A 6.0% ROIC does not look like much on its own. But with five-year Treasurys sitting near 5%, the spread is already tighter than history says it can stay. The bond market is doing the Fed's tightening work for it, and the next move in rates closes that gap further in $T's favour. |
| Jess Langley Bear 🐻 |
No. This is a leverage story. Net debt at 2.7x EBITDA, in a world where five-year Treasurys are printing the same number, means the debt is getting more expensive to carry. • | The balance-sheet burden: The 11.6% free cash flow yield sounds generous. Then you put it next to rising Treasury rates, which quietly eat the premium you are paid for taking telecom credit risk, and raise what it costs to refinance a debt pile that size. |
• | The valuation trap: Jordan will point at the 7.3x P/E and call it a screaming buy. But the S&P 500's P/E has already contracted from 30x to 19x as rates climbed. Cheap multiples in a rate-compression cycle are usually structural repricing doing its work, and $T carries enough leverage for that 5.5x EV/EBITDA to drift lower still. |
• | The sector read-through: With Goldman Sachs turning bullish on equities broadly, money rotates toward growth names, which leaves a heavily indebted telecom near the back of the queue. And $T is falling alongside T-Mobile ($TMUS) at -12.3%, so what we are watching is the whole sector being repriced rather than one stock handing you a clean entry. |
| | The Digest ✨ What investors like you are reading. Trump is weighing direct involvement against the Houthis while brokering a Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire, Zero Hedge reports. Drone strikes on Riyadh have forced oil majors to cancel summit appearances, Offshore Engineer reports. The CEOs of Intel ($INTC) and Broadcom ($AVGO) warned that access to capital, rather than chips, may become AI's defining constraint, CNBC reports. |
